Trezor.io/Start | Starting® Up® Your® Device®
Secure startup checklist and practical steps for safe self-custody.
1. Inspect & Verify
Open your package in a private, well-lit place. Confirm tamper-evident seals and packaging match official images. If anything looks altered, stop and contact support.
2. Use Official Software
Navigate to the official startup page or companion app (type the URL or use a trusted bookmark). Avoid links from emails or chat messages.
3. PIN & Seed
Create a strong PIN on-device. Write your recovery seed on the supplied card — never digitally. Confirm the seed when asked by the device.
4. Verify On-Device
Always verify receiving addresses and transaction details on the device screen before approving. The device display is the single trusted source.
5. Firmware & Updates
Update firmware only through official channels. Firmware updates include important security patches — confirm update integrity as instructed by official guides.
6. Backups & Recovery
Store recovery words offline. Consider metal backup options. Test recovery on a spare device to confirm usability without exposing your active wallet.
7. Advanced Options
Use passphrases or multisig for advanced protection. Understand the trade-offs: added security can also mean additional points of failure if not managed carefully.
Need Help?
If anything is unclear or suspicious, consult official support and documentation before proceeding. Never share your seed or PIN with anyone.
